Getting Ready for School

Things are moving along as we prepare Jessica and Sam for school. They will be attending Don Lugo High School here in Chino. Sam in 9th grade and Jessica in 11th. Although they will both be in four intensive English classes a day, plus P.E. and an elective. Jessica has opted for Dance as her elective. Sam is still considering.

But we have them all registered and ready to start next Tuesday (Feb. 7th). Jessica is more than ready, Sam is... well... eh! He could do without school!

The bonding continues. We truly enjoy spending time together. Sam likes to touch and be touched. He is constantly rubbing Glen's head and messing Cyndy's hair (it would be the same thing if Glen HAD any hair!). He also likes to snuggle on the couch and reach out and touch you as he walks by. Jessica likes to talk long walks around the neighborhood, listen to music and they both like to watch movies! They also like to stay up late, which will have to change when school starts! We'll see how that works.

Thank you for your prayers! I'll try to post some new pictures for you!

Things Progressing

Haven't written for awhile, but things have been going well. We are progessing toward getting Sam and Jessica into school. The new semester starts on February 7th, and we have been working with them on their English skills. Once they start in school they will be immersed in English. And as the progress, they will be eased into academics. We are waiting for vaccination records so we can enroll them in public school.

This was the fourth Sunday that we have had the kids at church. They are getting more comfortable, but still have quite a ways to go. Sam stayed for youth group after church and played a lot of Zenga and made pizza, as did Nathan. Jessica opted to go on with mom to do some shopping. She is a little more shy than Sam.

Last night we had dinner with our friend Janet Harlan and her youngest daughter, Kim. The kids get along really well with the Harlan girls (Kim and Leslie), so it was fun. We are trying to move them into some friendships.

So anyway, we're doing fine. Thanks for your continued prayers.

Life at the Haworth House

Well, things are still going very well! Cyndy's parents, Morgan and Joan Brainerd are here, along with Beth Hallock (her sister) and Tammy Berry (our neice) and her 3 year old, William. Jessica and Sam are enjoying the company and relating very well with everyone. English is coming along, slowly. With company they are not having much time to work Rosetta Stone, however.

Jessica is jumping rope and jogging quite frequently, trying to get/stay in shape. Sam (who is already a bean pole!) is playing any game he can get anyone else to play, including basketball. He wants to play volleyball, but we don't have that ability. So we'll have to find a park with a volleyball court, I guess!

Anyway, not a lot to tell you except that your prayers are working and we are becoming a family! We are bonding. Keep praying that this process will continue.

Happy Epiphany!

Things are going really well in the Haworth household. The kids are happy and working hard at learning English. They want to do things with us and ask all kinds of questions!

We are getting things done slowly in terms of all of the official things we have to do. Adding them to our health insurance policy, getting Social Security cards, enrolling them in school, getting doctors and dentists appointments, etc. Cyndy is back at work and Glen is working a lot from home. We make sure one parent is home with them all the time.

Nathan is still doing really well. The three of them are developing good relationships. All three received bikes for Christmas, so the two boys have been riding bikes together (Jessica hasn't braved it yet). Mom and Dad are getting bikes, too, so we can do "family bike rides" soon!

Thank you for your continued prayers. We are hoping to send out an "Epiphany Letter" by mail, but we'll see if that gets done! So much to do!!!

Blessings,

Glen, Cyndy, Nathan, Jessica and Sam Haworth

P.S. We've noted that the weather today in Penza is a HIGH of 8 degrees Fahrenheit with snow showers. In Chino, it is sunny with a high today of 84!

First Day Just Us

Today (Tuesday) was the first day of just us together at our home in Chino! Well, actually, Cyndy went to work, so it was just Glen and the kids, but nevertheless, it was the first day of a family routine.

Glen worked with Sam and Jessica for almost 2 hours on counting and the alphabet. Then, both of them worked an hour on the computer program The Rosetta Stone. Later in the day, they both took another hour or so on the program, too!

We went grocery shopping. Glen spent a lot of money. Took all three kids with him. BIG MISTAKE!! All a learning process! Next time, he'll stick with the list and not let them talk him into things! (yeah, right!)

Nathan and Sam rode their new bikes around the neighborhood. Jessica jumped rope out in the front. The rain stopped and it was a lovely day. The kids remarked at how beautiful it was to see the snow up on the mountains above us.

It is good to be home!

Lots of challenges ahead, to be sure. But they are eager to learn and fit in, and today was a good day. Thanks for your continued prayers. Now I (Glen) has to go fix dinner!

Blessings,
